The AWC National Conference in Seattle

The AWC National Conference will be held October 15-17 in Seattle. In the future, I would love to see our students able to attend such a national event! I was told that a group of four was eligible for discounted price. Fundraisers, anyone? :) More info here.

AWC Planning Retreat

The AWC San Antonio Board met up on June 27th. Also invited were the UTSA Student Chapter President, Nicole Vasquez, and Vice President, Alejandra Amaro.

This year, we are celebrating 100 years of AWC! Our Centennial Celebration will be held in September; details to come soon. This should be a big event. We also plan to create many workshop and monthly programs centered around a theme for Social and New Media for business.

Topics will include Ted Conference Techniques, Social Media, and Tools and Applications. We even have our very own "Social Media Breakfast Boot Camp" set in place later this fall.

AWC San Antonio Headliner/Proliner Awards Ceremony

Each year, AWC San Antonio recognizes community leaders in the field of communications with the Headliner/Proliner Awards Banquet. This year's 29th Annual HPB was held downtown at the Westin Riverwalk. I worked the registration table! Cynthia Lee, president and founder of Motah and former anchor for fox 29 News, took the microphone as master of ceremonies at 7pm.

Seven Headliner and 54 Proliner awards were presented to both students and professionals in the communications field. Proliner awards recognize excellence in the field of communication, while the Headliners are presented to those with 10+ years of excellence.

Thank you to Ginger Purdy for the invitation! This event was held at El Tropicano Hotel on May 26th, 2009. What a fun chance to meet others and share experiences. It was the students' first time to attend a networking event in San Antonio. I am so excited for the future student members of AWC. The energy in the room was great; we enjoyed live music, games, and door prizes.
